Pastor Bowlin's Biography

Pastor Lawrence (Larry) Bowlin was born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina. He attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1995 with a B.A. in history. During his four years at UNCG, Larry began his ministerial career as a youth director at Adams Farm Presbyterian Church. Also during that time, Larry met his future wife, Ellen. Upon graduating from UNCG, Larry enrolled at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC and earned a Masters of Divinity in 1998. After graduation, Larry accepted a seasonal position as Area Director Chaplain at Yellowstone National Park. When the position at Yellowstone concluded for the season, Larry returned to North Carolina and began working in Wilmington as an interim youth pastor at Pine Valley Baptist Church. Shortly after marrying Ellen in 1999, they relocated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where Larry ministered for three years as a young adult pastor at Hebron Presbyterian Church. Larry was then called to serve as an assistant pastor, and eventually, interim head pastor at First Reformed Presbyterian Church. Larry and Ellen Bowlin have three young daughters ages 4 and under; Grace, Joy and Hope. The Bowlins are thrilled to receive God's call to Providence Presbyterian Church.
